GPD ANTICIPATES $24 MILLION IN STIMULUS FUNDS
The police force is also looking to gain new officers and personnel in the coming months.
GPD deputy chief, Bob Camacho says that through a “cops grant” from the stimulus package, Guam police is hoping to secure nearly $24-million dollars expanded over a 3 year timeframe. Camacho says the grant would assist the department in hiring 200 new police officers and about 80 administrative employees. He says the department needs to increase its personnel especially with the arrival of some 8,000 marines and their depandents from Okinawa to Guam beginning next year.
Camacho adds that GPD will find out when the money will be available by the end of this fiscal year.
