UOG AWARDED $141,000 FOR SEA GRANT EXTENSION PROGRAM
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced that the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded $141,000 to the University of Guam (UOG) for the Sea Grant Extension Program. Congresswoman Bordallo supported an increased appropriation of $58 million to the National Sea Grant College Program in the Fiscal Year 2010 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The increased FY10 appropriation allows NOAA to expand its support of projects nationwide including the continued development of a Sea Grant Extension Program at the University of Guam. The program will conduct research on issues affecting our coastal ecosystem, provide information on sound development practices, and will help develop concise marine education materials for students.
“The financial assistance received from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration will continue the research and education already underway at the University of Guam,” Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo said today. “The research conducted by the Sea Grant Extension Program at the University of Guam will help address issues specific to Guam and our coastal and marine areas. I thank Dr. Robert Underwood for his work in securing these funds, and I look forward to this federal financial assistance benefitting our community.”
University of Guam President Dr. Robert Underwood stated, “The University of Guam is very appreciative of the support and hard work of Congresswoman Bordallo on this matter. Achieving Sea Grant status for the University is a strategic goal of the University and this helps us reach another milestone in the process.”
